Luckily, I'm still employed. So while the printer may be a good value, Brother will make it up on the cartridges. The OEM "brother genuine" have great reviews - but each is ~$90. CHEAP NOW, MEANS EXPENSIVE LATER. Nice size, quiet, does what a printer is supposed to do, and we love the duplex.
Especially if the cartridges wear out at the same time. For all three to be low at the same time is now requiring a $270 investment. However, we're now in search of cartridges as the Y,M,C all need to be replaced. We love the printer, which is great for home printing. Compatibles found online all seem to have bad reviews - printing few pages before failing again or smearing.
Fortunately, the black is going strong - or buying another complete printer would make better sense.SO BEWARE.
It replaced an Okidata C5150N and is a great upgrade. Colors are acceptable for general color - play with the settings in "Preferences" to get better quality/resolution. Set it up by directly connecting to your router via Cat5/5e/6 cable. Overall I'm very pleased with the printer. I read the reviews about the printer - warnings about weight are TRUE (but remember, it also INCLUDES the duplexing unit). The CD Flash video gives a great step-by-step setup, though the wireless networking didn't work on my router. Agree with others - if you're looking for photo-quality check it out first or use an inkjet printer instead.
Done Once I change my router setting to "WPA or WPA2 auto", everything was good afterward. The wireless set up can be done on the machine without a connection to a computer. The problem turns out to be that the WPA2 mode is not supported by the printer and my wireless router was set to WPA2 only. Just browse the manu on the printer to Lan, WLAN to Wireless setup Wizard. I choose this printer over HP CP2025dn because this Brother printer comes with wireless network and the cost of toner cartridges is relative lower.
It detects the network and I enter the password. Thus the printer fails to associate with my wireless network. Both printers print duplex and come with drivers for PC and Mac, which is nice. The wireless network set up was not smooth in my case. This printer has great features. I was stuck in the wireless network set up process for several hours.
This no-computer method is actually easier for me.
Prints fast, but the warmup is a bit slower than I'm used to with an ink jet, but the quality of the color trumps the start up.We had to hire someone to do the install, it's a heavy machine, too much for one person to do alone. We researched the machine for weeks at stores and on the web, Amazon had the best price by far. Excellent quality printer, the copies are very professional. Even with the extra charge, it was worth it.
I have an older laserjet 5l.mono.and the pages come out of it the same. Research products on line.read the reviews.talk to a live person either a sales associate or someone you may know that has previously owned or still owns the product. The printer was found on my network, the software installed and.wallah. To me, this is so great. Secondly.yeah I too feel it is a bit noisy but then again, it is the same noise that I have experienced working with other laser printers in it's class. Many people do this with their first computer puchase.
I can print wirelessly on two speperate computers now. By now we should all know that the over the phone associates in most cases are going to be useless (sorry guys but it's true). They may come out with the ends having a slight curl but it straightens out once you remove the page from the printer. Now, until I have an issue with replacing the toner cartridges, I may change my mind about my purchase but for now, I feel that will be too long down the road and the return period will have expired by then.
Do your work people.research, research, research. Why purchase the computer if you are too intimidated to understand it.Other than the weight of the product, I really have no cons that I'm aware of at the moment. So, I do hope the issue with the toner is not as some of you have described. The wireless setup.again, unless you have had any experience setting up your network and printers and computers that attach to it, then this process may not seem so simple to you. I don't see any issue with the pages curling.
I also work in a place that uses many HP laser printers and I find that this printer works just the same as the printers I work with. For me, the wireless setup went like a snap. The thing I don't understand about people is, if you have never had any such experience with a product and you haven't done your homework about the product and spent at least 30 minutes at some store bugging the sales associate to answer your questions about the product, why then do you bother to purchase it. And, again, while it is a heavy printer, it's not that much heavier than my older laserjet 5L.
First of all, I want to start by talking about some of the negative reviews written about this product:Granted, I have only had the printer for a few days but I have had experience with other laser printers and so I feel from the print tests I have performed thus far, I am qualified to share my thoughts. To the person or people that complained about the page curling.what planet are you people from. If you have only ever owned an inkjet printer before and you have never worked with or been around a laser printer, you need to realize that with all the belts and fans and moving parts of a laser printer, they are going to be much noisier than any inkjet out there. If you do this, why don't you at least know you have a family member or friend to help you install it.
